This Week In 2nd Grade...
It's PLP week! I'm excited to meet with all of you. Thank you for signing up or emailing me. There are a few more spots to be filled. Follow the link in the email or email me to find a time that works for you. Remember that Thursday, March 2nd is a half day!
Math: We will be finishing up our Chapter 10 this week. The students have been doing a great job with the hundreds place value.
Reading: We will be working on finding evidence in our reading. This is a comprehension skill that will allow them to support their answers when asked questions about the reading.
Writing: The students are learning ways to edit their writing by correcting their spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.
Science: Understanding the importance of evidence is something we will continue to focus on. This will be tied to the reading in class as well as other activities.
Look for a goal worksheet in the Monday/Homework folder to fill out for homework this week. Talk to your child about the goals they want to set for the last trimesetr and be sure to fill out the backside. You can return the form any day this week or bring it to your PLP.
There will be no spelling this week. Again, we will be focusing on reading. Every 10 minutes of reading will earn them a star! The PLP Goal worksheet will be the other activity that needs to be completed and turned in (or brought to the PLP).
I hope you can make it to History Night tonight, 6:30-7:30! In second grade we will be presenting our class movie "If Famous People Came to Achieve!" It's a 12 minute video that we will be replaying throughout the night. We will also have the student's Famous Person Scrapbooks on display. These kids did a great job pulling together research, constructing well written paragraphs and presenting a wonderful biography both on paper and in the video. Wait until you see their acting skills...they are amazing! I look forward to seeing you!
Since this is a short week and we have History night, I want to keep it simple. This week the students will get a star for every 10 minutes they read each night! 20 minutes will earn 2 stars...60 minutes will earn 6 stars! Maybe try reading a chapter book together this week. Any book will do...this weather is perfect for a nice cozy read with your second grader! Enjoy!
This Week in 2nd Grade...
The biography unit was so much fun! We will take this week to settle back into a routine and pick up where we left off with Read Live (fluency and comprehension program) and other regular activities.
Math: We are working with place value models up to 1,000. This chapter is hands on and requires the use of ones, tens sticks and hundreds squares. Also, our class average for ST Math is 50%! The students will continue to work towards their next goal.
Writing: Grammar, quick writes and frequently misspelled words.
Science: We will have an activity this week and will be reinforcing claim and evidence.
Reading: iready, Read Live & Lexia.
