SHout out to parents...I just want to let you know that I appreciate all of your time and support you give to your child with their homework. I hear so many fun things like, "my dad is challenging me to do the bonus words," or "my mom gave me a bunch of money to count," and "when we were reading last night..." Parents, you have no idea how much your kids love you and their time spent with you. Thank you for making time for homework. It is time well spent with your kiddo. Just a few more short weeks left and I'm cheering you on...finish strong! And, on a personal note, I also want to thank you for all the big and little ways you support me and the class. A little note, an email, quick conversation in the hallway, driving on a field trip, offering to bring in supplies or just checking in on our little classroom...I appreciate it all! Thank you for making this year so wonderful! STAR HomeworkOur homework will include another set of science spelling/vocabulary. They are only responsible for the spelling, not the definition. The list can be found in their homework folders as well as Spelling City. I will include class time for spelling since it's a short week. These words are much easier than last week's...which by the way, they did great! It was great to see them rise up to a challenge! Math will include ST Math and addition and subtraction of money. There will be no writing, but of course, reading!!!! THis Week...Science: We will continue the study of Earth Science and landformations this week. We will be doing a lot of reading, writing and hands on activities! Math: Addition and subtraction of money. Reading/Writing: We are in our second round of reading groups. The kids are doing so well. We are working on comprehending, inferring and reading with expression. Upcoming Dates and Needs...May 16 (8:30-2:00)- Field Trip to Upper Bidwell Park (parent drivers needed)

Important Update & Info...Date Change: Our field trip to Upper Bidwell Park has been rescheduled! The new date is Tuesday, May 16. I'm very sorry for the change. Our field trip will be roughly between 9-2. We will need drivers. The permission slips will be going home next week with more information. HATS! Performance: Thank you for sending in your child's shirt orders. I have included another form in the Monday folders IF I haven't received one yet. We NEED to have all the shirt sizes by tomorrow! Props: Our musical is about hats. Each student will be wearing a hat...some will be specific to their character and others will be a hat of their choice. Ask your child what kind of hat they need. If you are looking for something specific, I will be able to help (and I will let your child know if I have a hat for them already). We would like to start using the hats as props as early as this week. Please let me know if you need help! ST MATH Challenge: As I mentioned last week, I am pushing the kids to work hard towards their next level goal (60% or 80%). I give time each day in class for them to work on ST Math. If you are able to, ST Math can be done at home for most kids (depending on their completion level). I just want you to know that if you cannot do ST Math at home, I understand. I also want to be sensitive to kids who struggle with ST Math and find it difficult. If ST Math is a battle each night, please let me know. There might be something I can do to help them through a tough level. STAR HOMEWORKThe kids worked so hard last week and met their goal! We will continue to keep the goal high for the next couple of weeks. Here is what you will find on the menu this week... Reading: Every 10 minutes = 1 STAR. Reading is the most valuable activity on the menu! Spelling: This week the spelling words are BIG words! I am asking that they learn to spell the 3 different types of rock formations: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. Since we will be using these words a lot in class, it would be great for them to know how to spell them. There is also a bonus list included if your student is up for the challenge. The list is included on Spelling City and can be used like our other lists. Please understand, I realize these words are difficult and all I want them to do is try their best. Based on how well the class is doing each week on their spelling tests, I bet they are going to do great! Math: This week we are starting our money unit. I included a math page with a game. If anything, the page will be a good reference for them. We are starting with coin identification/value and addition of money. Feel free to play with real money and challenge them to count the total amount of change in a pile of coins. ST Math is also a math choice. Writing: I have included a rock worksheet that asks for adjectives and sentence practice. In the Class...Science: We will spend the rest of the week learning about rocks, classification and identification.
Math: Money Reading/Writing: We will be reading and writing about rocks this week. |
