STAR HomeworkSince we have a short week, there will be no spelling words. Our homework will include reading and writitng. There is a writing worksheet that your student can work on. Challenge them to write at least 2 sentences for each activity they did during break. Every ten minutes spent reading will earn them a star. Our class' STAR goal is high for a short week, so encourage them to read a bit more than usual! The STAR tally is due on Friday morning. This Week in 2nd Grade...Math: We will be finishing up our geometry with a test on Friday. We have a goal for everyone to be past 60% progress in ST Math. If your student is below 60%, feel free to include ST Math as a part of your homework. Email me if you have any questions. Science: We will wrap up our unit on matter and will start to talk about geology and rocks! This is a second grade favorite! Reading/Writing/Spelling: Our new rock unit will include opportunities for reading, written response and even spelling words. In fact, our spelling homework for the next few weeks will include vocabulary words. Upcoming Events...May 1 - No School
May 9 - Field Trip to Upper Bidwell Park May 18 - HATS performance & Science Night May 19 - Talent Show

Last week...What a week! On Monday we kicked off our new reading groups! It has been fun to change things up a bit for reading. We also have new assigned seats (to accommodate our new reading groups). Our math was new also...who knew shapes could be so fun?!?! And as if that wasn't enough, we started our new science unit on properties of matter. There was a lot of energy and excited last week...it was a great week! STAR HOMEWORKSTAR Homework should be pretty familiar by now. This week we will have spelling and I have included a math worksheet to practice some of our new geometry skills. Writing can be in the form of a letter, journal, story or even writing spelling sentences. We have bumped our STAR goal to over 250! So, if every student earned 11 stars each week (and turned them in on Friday), we would easily reach our goal. Remember 10 minutes of reading = 1 star! This week...Math- We will continue to work on geometry. We are learning to identify a shape by the number of edges, faces and vertices. We will have some hands on learning this week that will end up as art for the classroom.
Science- We will look further into the different properties of matter and how matter can change from one form to another. Have you heard of oobleck? Is it a solid? Is it a liquid? Hmmmm?!?! Reading/Writing- Our reading groups will spend one day reading together and the next day completing a comprehension activity. It has been so fun to watch the students get into their books! The students continue to work on Lexia and iready during the week. |
