This Week in 2nd GradeMath- We will continue to compose and decompose numbers up to 1,000. The students are doing a great job with the hundreds place value. Science- Learning about the Earth's changes was a fun topic to explore with this class! Here is a link to the stop motion video that they created. I'm so proud of them and their ability to create a product that shows what they have learned! Land Changes . This week we will start our last science unit on animal habitats. I'm looking forward to fun hands-on activities and projects with this class! Reading/Writing- In addition to the "Goal Groups" that meet during reading, we are building up the students' stamina with independent reading. They show impressive growth in this area...it's obvious they are gearing up for 3rd grade! Social Studies- Our science unit will continue to develop map reading skills, which is a Social Studies standard for 2nd Grade. Spelling- Spelling Lists will be in the students' Monday folders. STAR HomeworkSpelling lists will be tucked in the HW/Monday folders for this week. These kids are doing a great job navigating their way through 2nd grade spelling tests. Keep practicing counting money and telling time at home! ...And then there is the most important practice your child can do at home...READ! If homework ever gets "boring" or "redundant," please let me know and I can give you some ideas! *Please remind your child to keep track of their STARs and be responsible to turn in their HW slips on Friday. Getting ready for 3rd grade...their homework system is different and requires more responsibility on the student's behalf! Upcoming Dates & Events5/4- Dance Evolution Field Trip {9:40-11:20am}

This Week in 2nd GradeMath- We have officially been introduced to the 100's place value! We will be working with writing numbers (written form) and expanded form (300+30+1=331). Eventually we will be adding and subtracting with regrouping. Science- The study of the Earth's changes is coming to a close. We will wrap things up with a fun culminating activity this week. Reading/Writing- Reading groups have been established and are running smoothly! Each student is in a small group that is reading a chapter book. Our groups read, re-read and then complete a reading comprehension activity. I love to hear the discussions and excitement the students are sharing about their books. Social Studies- The landform science unit will compliment the geography unit we just studied in Social Studies. We will be referencing quite a few maps in the next few weeks.
