What a treat for our kids last week! We had a special guest speaker, Jennifer Jewell, come to our class with Mike Thiede to talk to our class about planting to attract pollinators. We learned a ton! After talking with kids, Mike Thiede helped our class get some Salvia plants started (hopefully). We are trying to root them from cuttings.
This unit is all about thinking and reasoning. Students will classify shapes by their properties and practice logic skills related to shape questions. This unit is focused on developing spatial reasoning and critical reading and thinking skills.

Perfomed by Achieve 2nd and 3rd Grade. Our performance date is set for May 12. This will be the same date as Science Night. We will perform at 5:30 and then Science Night will start at 6:30. Be sure to put it on your calendar. It is coming together is should be great! The students work very hard each year to perform for their parents, families and friends. Be sure to spread the word. Let those grandparents know!

Pollination and other Science
We started a new mini science unit on Pollinators last week. Students already have a great understanding from first grade on how pollination takes place. We are going to expand on this with some discussions and activities about how to increase the numbers of pollinators.
We will finish our chapter on 3 digit addition and subtraction this week. As the year progresses we will continue working on problem solving strategies using addition and subtraction. Our next math unit is Geometry. In 2nd grade Geometry students will classify, name and describe shapes.
Our 2nd and 3rd grade musical should be great this year. The students have been working hard and are ready to rock! It takes place in a swamp and is themed around acceptance. Lots of Virtues are included in the musical. The date is still up the air. It will be either May 4th or 12th. I should know this week. When I know, you will know.
At the moment we are working with Stories both for reading comprehension and writing. Students are learning story elements such as having a conflict of problem in their story. The students have tons of enthusiasm for story writing right now. We are working to learn how to make the stories more interesting, flow and make sense to the reader.
May 11 - Field Trip
We are going to see Stunt Dogs at Laxson Auditorium on May 11th. More information to come. Put it on your calendars. We will need parent drivers.
