Not a whole lot to share this week. I hope everyone has a great Christmas, spending time with family and friends and spoiling those kids!
Here is what we have going on this week:

Another exciting week in Second Grade filled with Holiday Cheer! I am enjoying this class so much. You all have raised some pretty neat children. We will put on our show today at 12:45 and that will be our last one for a while. We have a musical in the works with 3rd grade. It is called Citizen of the World and includes many of our Virtues from the Virtues project. We will be performing the last week of January. I'll be posting some recordings of the kids singing this week. Check it out. They really are amazing for second graders. We Don't Just Sing :) Not only are they amazing at performing, they are skilled in their academics endeavors as well. The students are doing great work with 2 digit addition. It is really cool to see their understanding of how addition really works. We took a math test Friday and now we will do one more chapter practicing addition with regrouping before Winter Break. After the first of the year we will begin 2 digit subtraction. If you have had a second grader before we made the switch to Common Core (2012-2013) you will notice a big change in the spring in math. These students will become experts in addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers. The will not begin formal instruction in multiplication until 3rd grade. It is one of the shifts I get most excited about and in which our 3rd and 4th grade teachers have really noticed a difference in math performance. We will also continue this week with our Character Christmas Wishlist writing project. The students are being asked to be creative in their thinking and also back up their ideas with evidence from the story. Christmas Party Thanks to our room mom Jennette Klein for planning our Christmas Party. Here is the info from Jennette:
We are going to do a Polar Express Themed Christmas Party. We will have pizza and hot chocolate, watch the movie and open stockings. Student's can wear pajamas all day. Please send in $5 to help cover the cost of food and goodies. |
