Field Trip to Turtle Bay

Please fill out the permission slip for our Turtle Bay Field Trip (May 31st).  This will be an all day event and will require parent drivers.  The cost is $5 per student.  Please try to have the permission slip and money in by the end of the week.

I am in the process of working on one more field trip.  I will email the class once I have everything in place and send out the permission slips.  

This Week in 2nd Grade

Math-  We are going to zip through triple digit addition and subtraction in the next 2 weeks.  We are also going to tackle measuring this week.  I don't think it will feel like "math" to them... it will allow for some fun, hands-on learning!
Science-  Our final habitat project will be done in class this week!  They will be designing an animal with specific adaptations to survive in a specific habitat.  I'm looking forward to watching their knowledge be applied in a creative way!  
Reading/Writing-  We are reading Charlotte's Web and tying it into our Habitat Unit.  We will also use writing to describe different animals and habitats.  Our book study will also include new vocabulary...so feel free to ask them what word they learned today!  (***Monday we learned about the word "injustice")
Social Studies-  Our science unit will continue to develop map reading skills, which is a Social Studies standard for 2nd Grade.  We will also be talking a bit more about economy as we read Charlotte's Web.  
Spelling-  There will be no spelling for the rest of the school year.

STAR Homework

Last week was the last week of Homework!  Take time to play and be together in the evenings.  Reading will always be a great benefit to your child...now and always!  Please check Monday folders for student work and important information (like permission slips!).  Monday folders can be turned in on Tuesday.
