This week in 2nd Grade...

I hope you had a great 3 day weekend!  I am happy to be back...I really missed your kiddos.  Second graders in Mexico love to bottle flip, dab, jump rope and hula hoop.  I felt right at home!

This week will be similar to last week.  Here is what our class will be working on...

Math:  We are finishing up our unit on triple digit addition and subtraction.  We will spend a few days practicing and fine tuning our skills.  The students will be bringing home any math work they did not finish in class.  The math work they do at home can earn them a STAR for homework.  Our test will be either Thursday or Friday.

Reading/Writing:  The students are starting to read together in groups at their tables.  They are doing a great job tracking and following the reader.  We are also writing about what we read.  In the next week we will be establishing reading groups and will tackle some chapter books together.   Until then, we are learning about being good group members.

Science:  The students will make claims based on evidence with another science challenge this week!

STAR HOmework

Spelling:  The spelling list is in the HW folder.  I've heard a few of the students have been writing spelling sentences...way to go!  Your child can always pick up a Tic Tac Toe spelling practice from me if they want.

Writing:  A jounal or diary is a perfect way to practice writing.  Remind your student to pay attention to correct uppercase letters and punctuation.  A letter is another idea for your student to practice spelling.

Math:  I included a math subtraction worksheet to give you an idea of what we are working on in class.  Feel free to come up with your own math problems for them to solve.  This chapter includes both addition and subtraction.

Reading:  The crowned jewel of STAR Homework!   A star is earned for every 10 minutes of reading done at home.  Their hard work is paying off!  Mrs. Matz and I are noticing improvements in their fluency and comprehension when we work with them on ReadLive!
