Field Trip to Laxon

Field Trip Permission Slips will be in Monday/HW Folders this week and next.  Please fill out and return.  The cost is $5 per person.  We will need parent drivers.  Please indicate if you can drive on the permission slip.  Let me know if you have any questions!

This Week in 2nd Grade

​Math- The kids are rocking the double digit subtraction!  I am so proud of them!  We will continue to work through this concept and take a test sometime next week.  If you get a chance, have your student work on the math practice homework.  It has been beneficial to a lot of students since it is pacing with our classwork.  

Science-  Last week we were able to work in the Science Lab here at the school.  I hope to have more opportunities like that in the future!  For the next couple of weeks, we will be tackling some STEM challenges.  

Reading/Writing-  It's that time of the year where we give a few assessments.  The students know that this is our way of tracking their growth (that we'll get to celebrate) and giving us feedback as to areas we should work on.  I'm very proud of how diligent they are to take the assessments.  I will be pacing the assessments throughout the next week or so during reading groups.  

Our famous person research will also require reading, note taking and a well structured informational report.  I'm really looking forward to this unit!  

Social Studies-  You probably have heard about your student's famous person.  They were so excited to get right to work!  We will be doing all of the research and writing in class.  However, feel free to engage with your student at home by watching a video or reading a book together about their person.  I have heard several kids already have done this!  This will be our unit that we showcase at Open House.  Your interest and engagement in this project will enhance their learning.  You won't want to miss our Open House, February 22!

Spelling-  The students did great last week!  A new list will be in their Homework Folders on Monday.  They can grab a spelling tic tac toe sheet from me, work on spellingcity.com or study on their own.

STAR Homework

Reading- 1 STAR for every 10 minutes
Writing- Journal, write a story or a letter...just a few ideas.   Really encourage your student to work on editing (look for punctuation, spelling and other corrections).
Spelling- practice spelling words
Math- game of choice, math packet (included in HW folder) or other math practice.
