Field Trip Update & InfoWEATHER UPDATE: Because of the weather forecast, we will not be going to the park after teh show. We will come back to the school in time for lunch. DRIVERS: Can you please be at the school around 9:15? We should be back to school no later than 12:30. Just a reminder that Thursday this week, February 9, our class is going on a field trip to Laxon. The show will be about dinosaurs and looks really cool! If you haven't, please turn in $5.50 for your child's ticket. And, thank you to all the parents who have offered to drive. We have just enough seats for our crew! Thank you! STAR HomeworkI'm conserving paper this week and will only be sending home a few activities for the kids to do for homework. If you are feeling lost and would like a Tic Tac Toe Spelling sheet, I will have them available for the kids to pick up. Spelling: I included something different...Spell and Text, a fun way to practice those spelling words. If you are looking for more ideas, have your child try to come up with some ideas that they have done in the past or something new! Or just log on to Spelling City. Writing: This week your child can work on writing their valentines for the class. I have included a class list in the Monday folders. Math: I included some math worksheets in their Monday folders. The kids have been practicing making up their own double-digit subtraction problems and sharing it with friends. This would be a perfect activity to do at home also. Reading: The most valuable activity for homework is reading. 20 minutes is worth 1 star and an extra 10 minutes is worth another! BiographiesThe famous person biographies are coming along great! We will be putting together a fun video where the students will dress up as their famous person. We have a stash of some props in the class, but we might need help coming up with a few more. Their costumes are not expected to be extravagant. A hat, pair of glasses, tie, jacket or something simple would work just fine! Do you have something for your child's famous person? Just start thinking about it now and I'll let you know when we need them to be brought in. This week...Math: We will continue to work on double-digit subtraction with regrouping. There will be different strategies that we cover and a lot of practice. Science: Last week we discussed claims that we discovered from our Ramp and Roll challenge. We also talked about backing our claims up with evidence. It was fun to see the kids grasp these concepts and build on them. I'm excited to test some of our claims out this week! Writing & Social Studies: Students will be working on their rough drafts this week. Reading: Read Live, iready and Lexia are a few of the programs we rotate in the class for reading fluency, comprehension and phonics. Valentine's PartyBe on the look out for a Sign Up Genius for the Valentine's party. It is going to be very simple. We will make an envelope for our Valentine's in class. Please send your child with 24 Valentines. I will include a class list in the Monday folder.
