Achieve's annual Winter Performance will be on Thursday, December 14 at 7pm. It will be held at Paradise Alliance (CMA) Church on Clark Road, the same location as last year's performance. The 2nd graders will meet up front around 6:55 and sit together during the show.
Hour of Code Week
Our school has been participating in the national Hour of Code Week for the past couple of years. This week our class will experiment with code sequencing with Mr. VanRoekel. We will have other coding activities throughout the week. Our goal is to have the students exposed to coding, programming and other science based career opportunities through play, speical speakers and hands-on activities.
This Week in 2nd Grade
Math- The kids are rocking the double digit addition with regrouping! Sending home the practice worksheets seemed to help the kids out. Thanks for taking the time to work with them! I will send the next set of worksheets home again this week. We will be adding 3 double digits with regrouping this week. We will also have Mr. VanRoekel coming in to work with coding and ozobots during our math groups. They are going to LOVE it!
Science- We are growing grass heads in our class! Thankfully, there will be plenty of sunshine in the next week! I look forward to recording the results and having the students make a claim about plant's needs. We will hopefully have some good evidence to look at!
Reading/Writing- Having students identify and recall the sequence of events in a story is an essential reading strategy. I found the perfect Elf book to help us this week! We will also be writing and coding in sequence.
Social Studies- Our random acts of kindness will allow us to talk about community and the importance of our role in our class, school and family. We will continue to talk about consuming and producing as well.
Spelling- Spelling lists will be sent home in HW folders this week. Our test will be on Friday morning.
The homework menu will be the same as recent menus. I will be sending home another batch of math practice pages from the student's math book as an option for math homework. I will not be sending home Spelling Tic Tac Toe, but I will make it available if the kids want to pick one up and take it home. And, as always, reading is the most important activity your student can do at home!
