Check out this video to see how we will approach subtraction this week. 2 digit subtraction video. Biography Reports/Homework Students will choose who they will study this week. Homework for Monday and Tuesday is to choose two people you would like to study. Talk to your child about the people that interest them. Look around online and see if you can do a little reading or watch some videos about your choices. Fill out your choices and turn it in Wednesday. I will try to give everyone one of their top two choices. You do not have to pick someone from the list. I will reserve the right to approve the student's choice based on; 1. Does it fit with the assignment? and 2. Will we be able to find information. Keep in mind that you will need to make a costume to dress as your chosen person in February.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. I am excited to be back at school. We have a lot of fun learning to do this Winter and Spring in Second Grade. Famous Person Unit We will be starting our Famous Person/ Biography Unit today (actually we started with a preview the week before the break). Each student will choose a person from history to study and then write a report. We will then assemble the reports into a movie for History Night. It is a great project, the students learn a ton about historical figures and what it takes to make a difference in our world. We will begin this week with writing together about Harriett Tubman. Math We will start the week with a quick review of Addition with Regrouping. By the end of this week we will begin Subtraction with Regrouping. The students will spend the next couple of months mastering addition and subtraction and using it in different ways. This will lay the foundation for future success in mathematics. Homework Time to get back in those homework routines. Make sure that students are reading AR Books for 20 minutes each night. Check reading logs to make sure they are taking quizzes on finished books. Student have spelling, math and writing homework this week. Homework packet is due Friday.
