Fun Run!It was fun! Thanks to all the parents who helped put this event on. Thanks also to everyone who came out and participated! Grandparent InterviewThis week's homework is to interview a grandparent. The interview forms are in the homework packet. Please make sure to get three details for each question. Students will use this information to write a three paragraph report about their grandparent. Students may need some help with this assignment. The interview notes should be completed by the student. If you have any questions, let me know. This is a great assignment for your child to start learning some family history. I think you will enjoy it. Math TestThe math test from Friday is graded and in your student's Monday folder. Go over the test with them. Talk to them about why they made certain choices. Look for teachable moments. Overall they did well. This is an example of totally independent work by your child. The only assisstance given was in reading the questions. Quick LinksCheck out the quick links section of my website for web based activities that we do at school, that you can also do at home. I recommend Typing Club (if you have a device with a keyboard), Lexia and iReady. Students can work on these whenever. ReadLive can only be done at school at this point. Spelling City works great on tablets and computers.

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend. Here's to another great week in 2nd grade! Grandparent Unit BeginsOur mini-plant unit has come to an end. This week we will begin our Grandparent Unit. In this unit we will work on History goals of understanding how the world has changed over the last few generations. Students will begin to understand what life was like at different times in history. We will then focus in on what life was like for our grandparents when they were in 2nd grade. Students will interview and write a report about one of their grandparents. Our language arts goals to be met in this unit are all writing goals. Students will learn new topic sentence and transitions while writing a three paragraph report about their grandparent. This week is an introductory week. Next week, the students homework packet will only be their grandparent interview. I will give more info next week. MathWe should be taking our first math test on Friday if all goes well. Please check over their homework to make sure they get everything correct. The stories about comparing and using subtraction to compare can be a little tricky sometimes. Be sure to use the vocabulary you see on the worksheet, separating, comparing, difference. HomeworkNot much to note. Good job last week. One special note. You may replace any ONE square on Spelling Tic Tac Toe and do Spelling City instead. Just cross it out and write Spelling City on a square of your choice. AssessmentsOur beginning of the school year assessments are finished. If you would like to know how your child is performing right now, let me know and I can share some info with you. BadgesYou might have heard about this from your child. Just a fun thing to do at the start of the year, playing off the super hero theme. They can earn a badge for their; first Lexia level passed, 5 levels of typing club, 3 iReady Lessons completed, first homework packet turned in, great class behavior or being able to login into the chromebooks without any help.
