You've Got this! The final countdown...we have only a couple of days left of school, and as you know, things get a little crazy this time of year. Here are a few little things to keep you in the loop. Parents...YOU'VE GOT THIS! Math - New math unit this week- measurement. Also, I know many of your kiddos are trying to meet their ST Math goals. I will open up all the lessons so they can dive in an go for it! We will still have time in class to work on ST Math. I am really proud of their motivation and determination! Science Night - After our performance at 5:30 (see below for more details). Our school will be opening up the classrooms to showcase some hands on science and projects that the students have been working on. Our class will feature erosion, earthquakes and some engineering. Upper Park Field TripWe are so excited to take our knowledge of landforms and earth changes to Upper Park in Chico on Tuesday! Our principal, Mr. Wright, will be our guide and will lead us on our adventure. We will leave the school around 8:30 and will return around 2:00. Make sure to send your child with appropriate/comfortable shoes to hike trails in. It looks like it might be a little chilly...maybe even a sprinkle. All the kids will be responsible for carrying their own sweatshirts/jackets, snacks and water bottles in their backpack. I am really looking forward to our day together! Hats! Performance & Science NightWe will be performing our musical "HATS!" on Thursday at 1pm for the students here at school. Our BIG show will be at 5:30pm on Thursday night (an hour before Science Night). Please have your child here by 5:15. We will have their performance shirts here (one less thing to think about!). Please have them wear blue jean or navy blue bottoms (skirts, shorts or pants). STAR HOMEWORKOur homework this week (and for the next week or so) will be to focus just on reading. There is a new STAR Homework sheet that will simply allow your child to color in a star for every 10 minutes they read. Feel free to add more stars to the back if needed. We will still have a classroom goal to meet that will help our class earn one more party before the end of the year. Their reading skills are impressive. Let's encourage them to finish strong with their reading homework! Turtle Bay Field TripWe have one final field trip this year! We are going to Turtle Bay in Redding with our third grade friends. This is such a fun and exciting field trip! The permission slip is in the Monday/Homework folder this week. Please fill it out and return it to me ASAP. We will need parent drivers for this trip. I have 2 drivers so far. If you can drive, please let me know!

This will be another week of hands on activities where students will make a claim and back it up with evidence. Math: We will be wrapping up addition and subtraction of money. Reading/Writing: We will start our third and final round of reading groups. Star HomeworkOh my goodness! Your kids are working hard at home earning those stars! Even with a short week last week, they were able to meet their goal and then some! Here's what to expect this week...
Spelling/Vocabulary: The students are responding so well to the vocabulary words. It has been really helpful for them to know how to spell the words as we learn about science. There are only 5 words this week: weathering, erosion, earthquake, volcano and glacier. Reading: 1 star for every 10 minutes of reading Math: ST Math- try to get to 60%, 80% or even 100%! Other activities can include counting change or make up some double digit addition or subtraction with regrouping. |
