This week in 2nd Grade...I will not be at school this week. I get the amazing opportunity to join a team to work, build and help a community in Mexico. Your kids are in great hands. Sarah Kevwitch will be subbing all week. She is brilliant and has been with this class many times before. I just met with her on Friday and she is all set. There are rumors that she will be handing out tickets...the students are excited about that! Our classroom will run as usual. Here's what you can expect...
Just a reminder: There is no school on Friday, March 17, 2017. Homework: Wow! The students did a great job earning over 300 stars this past week! Their reading practice at home is really showing in class! Keep it up! The STAR Homework is pretty much the same as last week. I included a math worksheet so you can get an idea of what we are working on in class. Also, there will be spelling even though there is one less night to study...so start early in the week. And, writing those spelling words in complete sentences (or a story) counts for both writing and spelling! Math: Mrs. K will introduce the class to triple digit subtraction (which is much like the familiar double digit subtraction). Reading/Writing: We will be focusing on finding evidence, indentifying the problem and solution and other elements of a story. This week they will be reading a few stories about St. Patrick's Day as well as some writing. Spelling Test will be on Thursday. They will be given a few in-class opportunities to practice their words on Spelling City. FYI: The students have made huge leaps in their reading! We are starting to be pretty picky about their writing, grammar and spelling. Our goal is to prepare them for 3rd grade in the 3rd trimester...they are doing so well! Thank you for all you are doing at home to help them grow in their academics! If you aren't already, ask your child what they are reading? Who are the characters? What is the setting? What do they think is going to happen next?

THis Week...Thank you so much for meeting with me at your PLP! I enjoyed meeting with each of you! This is such a great class. This week is Read Across America Week. We will be having all sorts of Dr. Seuss fun in class. Here is the list of the Spirit Dress Up Days... Math: We will be starting our new math chapter that will introduce the students to triple digit addition and subtraction. Reading/Writing: We will be reading Dr. Seuss books this week and working on character, setting, problem, solution and other story elements. Of course, we will be working on answering in complete sentences and using correct punctuation and uppercase letters. Science: We had fun on Friday with a little challenge. This week we will be making claims and find evidence that supports our claims! STAR HomeworkWe are back to it this week. Thank you everyone for your feedback at PLPs regarding homework. Reading: Remember, reading is a high priority each night...this week especially! In the Monday folder you will find a reading log for Read Across America Week. Fill the reading log out as well as circle the stars for each night. Every 10 minutes = 1 Star Math: I included a math page from our math curriculum for this chapter. It's a game that you can play and earn a star. Feel free to make up math problems and have your student solve them to earn a star. Spelling/Writing: We are back at it this week. I have spelling tic tac toe sheets if the students ask me for one. Spelling City is also a great option. A lot of students indicated that they wanted to work on their writing. Have them write their spelling words in a sentence or a story using complete sentences, punctuation and uppercase letters. It's a two for one deal...a star for writing and a star for spelling! All STAR Homework sheets must be turned in on Friday to count towards our weekly goal. Upcoming...No School on Friday, March 17.
