Famous Person Video Time This is a big week for our famous person project! We will be filming on Tuesday. The students are super excited to perform their skits. I have had some questions about what time we will be filming. It will probably take us most of the morning, it is quite a process. Please do not come. We will show the video a few times during history night. The kids want it to be a surprise. Please make sure they come to school in costume and bring a uniform to change into if your child wants to change after filming. Famous Person Scrapbooks Students have been doing an awesome job researching, learning and writing about their famous person. They have been tasked with some high levels of thinking for second graders. For example, while researching they took notes in different categories on their "Scribble Notes" packet. They then had to write on different pages of their "Scrapbook" using those notes, but pulling from multiple categories. It has been fun to watch them sort their facts and try to decide where information best fits. We have some good thinkers in this group. They still have a lot of research to do. They have learned that after you begin writing, you often come up with new questions you hadn't thought of before. The "Scrapbooks" will be on display during History Night. Math New chapter to start this week, check into it.

Child of the World Thanks to all who came out to support the students. They felt like stars! It is a pleasure to work with such amazing families. Famous Person Project We are well under way on our research projects in class. The students completed the Life History portion of their scrap book last week and will continue working this week to learn about each person's Claim to Fame and Contributions to Society. Due to my absence today we are behind in our video production portion of the project. I will have to change the filming date to next Tuesday, February 10th. Please have students come that day dressed as their famous person. We will be writing short skits this week in which two people who never met, will get the chance to meet and talk about their lives. I have high hopes. We will see what we can pull off. Math We should finish our current chapter on Subtraction with Regrouping this week and then move into bigger numbers. If your student has been doing well so far, then they are on pace for mathematics success in the future. Students will become masters at adding and subtracting numbers this year.
